More children’s homes, but a different capacity picture

What the statistics show

Ofsted reports 4,800 children’s homes of all types at 31 March 2026, up 20% in a year, with 17,500 registered places, up 11%. Newly registered homes had an average capacity of three places, compared with four in homes registered before the year began. The publication also describes regional differences.
